A strip of land alongside the Bourne Brook, running from Mersea Road in the west to Old Heath Road. It is mainly woodland, old sweet chestnut coppice to the west and mature oaks to the east. A boardwalk runs all the way through.

Bourne Mill and its former pond, owned by the National Trust, are nearby. The pond is bordered by good aquatic vegetation, including yellow iris, brooklime and amphibious bistort, and several species of bat feed over it in summer.

Visiting

One mile south of Colchester centre, east of Mersea Road. Accessible from Mersea Road, Bourne Road (next to Bourne Mill), and Old Heath Road.

Regular bus services along Mersea Road.

Accessible at all times.

Paths can be very boggy in wet weather.
